Opening Fall 2010!

Who Can Apply: Incoming first year students admitted to UConn as undecided, ACES majors
Where Students Live: TBA
Course: TBA

Many students enter the University as exploratory majors. These students begin their college careers as undeclared so that they can explore all of their options before making an informed decision about which major(s) to declare. If you are among the many who aren’t quite sure what to major in, living with other exploratory students in the Exploratory Majors Learning Community may be the answer! This learning community, created especially for first-year students, was created in partnership with the Academic Center for Exploratory Students (ACES) and the department of Career Services. The goal of the community is to support you in the exploration of all the academic options at Uconn, leading to an informed decision about a major and potential careers.

Residents will have the opportunity to participate in residence hall and campus based activities designed to help them create friendships and bonds. They will also be challenged to explore their personality traits, interests, passions, skills, abilities, academic fields of study and potential careers. ACES and Career Services staff will provide on- and off-site learning opportunities for students such as: academic advising, individual and group career counseling, participation in a major exploration course, career development workshops, educational and social programs, and other growth experiences.

Goals

  • Provide first-year students with the tools and resources to learn how to make thoughtful decisions about majors, careers, and other life decisions
  • Help students become more aware of themselves and how their current decisions impact their future
  • Promote involvement with the campus community through residence hall activities, student organizations, and interaction with faculty, staff, and students
