Music
Who Can Apply: Junior or Senior Fine Arts Music majors
Where Students Live: South Campus, Rosebrooks Hall
Students do not enroll in a Learning Community course together, but assist freshmen and sophomore music majors with their assignments, recital and jury preparations.
Note for Non-Music Majors: This community is not open to all majors. As an alternative, incoming freshmen can consider the Connecting with the Arts Learning Community as an option.
Music majors who elect to live together to support each other academically and socially live in the Music Learning Community (also known as the Music Academic Cluster).
All music majors take four semesters of Harmony. Volunteers from this community make themselves available to first and second year Harmony students to answer questions and help them with assignments. This is done in cooperation with the Harmony professors and Teaching Assistant's (TA's) Service.
Music community students also serve as representatives and guides for Music Department auditions and open houses. Members conduct tours for prospective students on six occasions throughout the year, and help facilitate a positive experience for all.
In cooperation with Rod Rock, the Director of the Jorgensen Center for Performing Arts on campus, the students in the community take an active role in helping to promote the importance of the arts in our community by exposing other non-music students to concert performances they would not normally attend. The focus is on the classical, chamber, and symphonic concert series. Rod Rock provides two tickets, one for the Community member and another for their guest.
Students in this community also provide guidance and help in recital and jury preparations for new music majors. In addition, they may plan and conduct special performances, share dinners with each other, or take field trips.
