What impact does public health have on our lives?
What types of careers are available in the field of public health?
The Public Health House offers students a service learning opportunity to live with classmates who share an interest in community service, public health, education and advocacy. Students will participate in a variety of activities that include: social/networking events, field trips, and guest speakers highlighting cultural topics and the fields of public health and public policy.

- Attend a weekly seminar with other residents

How Do I Join?
- The Public Health House is open to undergraduate students in all years of study and in all majors; students must commit to weekly community service activities
- To apply check "yes to live in a learning community" on the Housing Application
- Students will live in the Alumni Quadrangle

What are the required courses to live in the Public Health House?
Required courses for Incoming First Year Students new to the Public Health House:
- INTD 1810, LLC: Urban Health & Programming; 1-credit; meets Fall and Spring semesters; LC students are automatically enrolled. Introduces First Year Students to services offered by the university to promote academic and career related success. Also provides students with public health community service instruction.
- INTD 1998, LLC: Public Health Community Service Experience; 1-credit; meets Fall and Spring semesters, LC students are automatically enrolled. This course also teaches students the skills needed to serve the urban community. This course has a 40 hour/semester service requirement.
- (Freshmen only) ENGL 1010, Seminar in Academic Writing with a Service Theme; 4-credit General Education course; meets Fall semester, LC students are automatically enrolled (**If you received credit for ENGL 1010 in High School or are transferring this credit from another institution, please email livelearn@uconn.edu to let us know as upper-level English credit is an option.)
Required courses for students returning to the Public Health House*:
- EPSY 3098, LLC: Public Health & Engagement Seminar; 2-credit; meets Fall and Spring semesters. This course provides experienced students with a forum to discuss their public health service experiences with faculty members across various disciplines.
*Students that have taken all required courses are encouraged to enroll in one or more 3-credit courses offered in one of the following departments:
- Allied Health (AH)
- Anthropology (ANTH)
- Dietetics (DIET)
- Health Systems Management (HSMG)
- Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS)
- Human Rights (HRTS)
- Medical Technology (MT)
- Nutritional Sciences (NUSC)
