My LC has provided me with a support group and the opportunity to meet many new people and experience great opportunities." On Public Health: "I think our LC is still in its learning stage, but we have had some nice events so far, including Healthy Huskies, a few motivating health-related movie showings, and the Husky Reads community service, which is a very rewarding activity." "The Husky Reads program has provided me with another opportunity to be involved at UConn. My group goes to Hartford every Monday afternoon, to Douglas St. Preschool, and we read to the children as well as do some activites with them." Hobbies: Swimming, tennis, reading Favorites: |
Lauren MauriceFreshman Exploratory major from Cheshire |
"I chose Public Health because I thought it would be nice to be surrounded by others who cared as much as I do about the health of other people. I had also heard that it was a great way to meet new friends. Not to mention that this LC would also allow me some experience outside the classroom. There is always a support group; the people in your LC have this sort of solidarity that is nice to have - everyone is in it togeher. It [the Public Health LC] has given me a solid group of people I can always go to, a good set of friends, and the ability to effect the lives of children for the positive. It's a wonderful experience so far!" "I love helping out in the Pre-Kindergarten classrooms. The kids get so excited to see my partner and I, and that just makes my day. Having an effect on their lives for the positive is the best thing I could ask for. The best thing about being involved is being able to make children excited about reading and about their health." Hobbies: Writing short stories, reading fiction, and cooking Favorites: Dream Career: Author/Successful S.L.P. |

The best thing about living in an LC is developing new friendships." On the seminar class and community service: "It's one of the few classes where you really get to express yourself and learn at the same time. Getting a chance to help and work with young children is the best thing [about community service]." "I like to believe that [the LC] has made me a more well-rounded person." Hobbies: Watching movies, and hanging out with friends Favorites: Dream Career: Becoming a pediatrician |
