The WiMSE (pronounced whimsy) Learning Community provides academic and social support for female students majoring in, or especially interested in, the math, sciences or engineering fields, including math and science education, science writing, etc. Living with students who have a similar interest and drive to succeed is a benefit for the women in this community. Students form study groups, they interact with faculty and student mentors who can provide useful information, and they create a community of friends who explore campus life together.
Meet the WiMSE LC Ambassadors!
The WiMSE Seminar
This first year experience (FYE) WiMSE seminar course focuses on introducing students to campus life and the resources available to support women in the sciences. Faculty guest speakers will introduce students to different fields and topics.
Students will get to know faculty and staff, as well as each other better, enabling them to develop a rich support system to help them navigate their next four years of school.
The optional Spring WiMSE Lab Research and Outreach course will bring students into different labs across campus, and also create community service opportunities for them.
The WiMSE Club
The WiMSE Club is a student organization founded by WiMSE Learning Community students that is open to all students on the UConn campus. The WiMSE Club collaborates with the WiMSE LC on activities, and takes the lead in planning the Annual WiMSE Banquet.
